Area Police
Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
